About the Role
North is seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer with deep expertise in modern web architecture and a strong command of component-driven development. The role centers on building fast, reliable, and highly polished user interfaces with SvelteKit, TypeScript, and TailwindCSS.
This is a hands-on, high-impact engineering position that involves working closely with senior engineers and the CTO to define the frontend foundations of the product. The ideal candidate excels at translating complex requirements into clear interaction flows, implementing scalable UI systems, and upholding exceptional code quality.
What You’ll Do
- Architect, develop, and maintain user-facing features using SvelteKit, Svelte 5, TypeScript, and TailwindCSS.
- Implement scalable, maintainable component structures and frontend architecture.
- Build responsive, accessible, and performant interfaces optimized for clarity and consistency.
- Collaborate with product and backend engineering to refine specifications, workflows, and API contracts.
- Implement robust error handling, boundary states, and loading strategies.
- Ensure code quality through reviews, documentation, linting, and testing.
- Contribute to frontend performance optimization and observability.
- Own features end-to-end, from architecture → implementation → testing → deployment → monitoring.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of professional frontend engineering experience.
- Strong proficiency with Svelte, SvelteKit, or equivalent modern frameworks.
- Deep expertise in TypeScript, modern JavaScript, and web application architecture.
- Advanced proficiency with TailwindCSS for building scalable and consistent UIs.
- Strong understanding of interaction patterns, layout systems, accessibility, and responsive UI.
- Hands-on experience with modern build tools (Vite, ES modules, bundlers, Bun).
- Experience writing and maintaining automated tests (unit or integration).
- Experience developing good UX focused on self-serving applications to encourage product led growth
- Experience in a fast-paced and frequent code deployment environment
- Excellent communication skills and a disciplined, documentation-first mindset.
- Strong technical judgment and ability to make informed tradeoffs in an evolving product environment.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Playwright for end-to-end testing.
- Familiarity with component library architecture or design system engineering.
- Experience optimizing frontend performance at scale.
- Exposure to complex, data-dense interfaces or enterprise-grade web applications.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar).
Work Setup
Hybrid role based in New York City, with an office in Dumbo, Brooklyn.
