About North.Cloud

The public cloud is rapidly evolving, with businesses investing over $200B annually in cloud technology. As AI accelerates demand for scalable infrastructure, cloud costs are soaring—and most teams still rely on spreadsheets to manage them.

At North, we’re building the next-generation cloud spend management platform. We give companies real-time visibility, control, and automation over their cloud finances—so they can grow efficiently, without wasting time or money.

Backed by top-tier investors and trusted by global customers like Brave, StayNTouch, and DataBiologics, we’re assembling a world-class team to redefine how businesses manage cloud infrastructure. If you’re looking for impact, ownership, and the chance to build from 0 to 1, North is the place to be.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer who’s comfortable building systems across the stack—especially around cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, and backend APIs.

You’ll help architect and implement the core systems that power our data platform, working closely with other senior engineers and our CTO to scale North’s infrastructure across multiple clouds. You’ll touch everything from Terraform modules and serverless APIs to multi-cloud ETL systems and data pipelines.

If you’re a generalist who knows cloud, loves building with data, and thrives in an early-stage environment where engineering drives product outcomes—we want to meet you.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and maintain backend services, APIs, and infrastructure that power North’s core platform
  • Create large-scale, multi-cloud data processing pipelines to support analytics and AI use cases
  • Work across AWS and GCP using modern serverless tools and managed services
  • Use Terraform to manage infrastructure as code, optimizing for scale, reliability, and speed
  • Build real-time APIs and systems that support intelligent cost recommendations and financial modeling
  • Ensure platform security and compliance (OAuth, OpenAPI, secrets management, audit logging, etc.)
  • Collaborate closely with the engineering team on system design, performance optimization, and scaling
  • Own your work from start to finish—architect, build, test, deploy, monitor

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience across cloud infrastructure, data engineering, or backend systems
  • Deep experience with AWS (bonus: also GCP or Azure) and Terraform
  • Strong Python skills; bonus for familiarity with Go or SQL
  • Experience designing and optimizing ETL pipelines and data transformation workflows
  • Proficiency in building and scaling APIs, especially those supporting real-time or near-real-time systems
  • Comfortable in CI/CD environments and with tools like GitLab Actions, Docker, and Kubernetes
  • Understanding of AI/ML systems at the infrastructure level (data prep, feature stores, inference pipelines)
  • Pragmatic, solution-oriented, and comfortable making tradeoffs in early-stage product development
  • Excellent communicator with strong documentation habits and a collaborative engineering mindset

Nice to Have

  • Experience in a startup or fast-paced environment
  • Machine learning experience—especially transforming and serving data to models
  • Hands-on work with GCP, BigQuery, or Vertex AI
  • Familiarity with cloud financial data or FinOps tooling
  • AWS Technical Certification (or equivalent)
  • Built intelligent systems or data platforms that scaled with user growth

Work Setup

This is a hybrid role based in New York City. Our office is in the West Village, and we typically spend part of the week in-office and part remote.

Benefits

  • Unlimited PTO
  • Office access in West Village
  • 16-week fully paid parental leave (mothers can extend to 20 weeks at 50% pay)
  • Company-wide breaks: Last week of August and Dec 23–Jan 3
  • Healthcare: Anthem BlueCross Gold PPO, 75% employer-covered
  • 30-day sabbatical every 4 years
  • Ramp card for approved expenses

Compensation

$160,000-$200,000 base salary, depending on experience. Equity also included.

Let’s build better cloud infrastructure.

If you're excited to work on fast, intelligent systems that drive real savings—and you love writing clean, production-ready code—we’d love to meet you.

Apply now and help shape the backbone of modern cloud operations.
