About SmartHop

SmartHop is building the AI-native, tech-enabled freight carrier of the future. Our mission is to empower small trucking operators with a path to grow their business and drive long-term success, and we’re doing it by building next-generation software that merges logistics, automation, and artificial intelligence.

We’re a fast-paced, product-driven team working at the intersection of logistics and cutting-edge AI. Join us in shaping the infrastructure for the next generation of freight mobility.

Role Overview

We’re looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer who is passionate about designing and building scalable, intelligent systems. You’ll work across the stack — from back-end APIs and distributed services to modern, AI-enhanced front-end experiences. You’ll play a key role in developing SmartHop’s AI-driven carrier platform and supporting products that redefine how carriers and brokers operate.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, develop, and maintain full-stack web and mobile applications using Node.js, Express, React, and React Native
  • Build and optimize RESTful APIs and microservices following best HTTP and security practices
  • Architect and implement queue systems and data flows for scalable, event-driven systems
  • Work with MongoDB and other storage solutions to design performant data models
  • Deploy and manage applications using Google Cloud Run, Docker, and modern CI/CD pipelines
  • Collaborate on building specialized and general agentic orchestration systems for the freight industry, enabling AI-native automation and decision-making
  • Follow and help define system design and deployment standards to ensure reliability and maintainability
  • Contribute to architecture discussions and technical decision-making across the engineering organization

What We’re Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering, preferably in SaaS or platform environments
  • Proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript
  • Hands-on experience with Node.js, Express, React, and React Native
  • Strong understanding of HTTP, REST principles, and API design best practices
  • Experience with queue systems (e.g., Pub/Sub, RabbitMQ, Kafka) and event-driven architecture
  • Experience deploying and managing services on Google Cloud Run or similar environments
  • Working knowledge of Docker and containerized environments
  • Strong foundation in system design, performance optimization, and deployment pipelines

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and service orchestration
  • Experience applying machine learning models or integrating AI agents in production systems
  • Experience building agentic workflows or leveraging automated coding tools such as Cursor.ai, Claude Code, Codex, or similar
  • Background in logistics, transportation, or mobility technology

Why SmartHop

  • Be part of a mission-driven company redefining how the logistics industry works
  • Work on AI-native software that powers real-world systems and autonomous decision-making
  • Competitive salary and equity package
  • Hybrid work culture with hubs in Miami and New York
  • Collaborative and ambitious team passionate about technology, design, and impact
