About SmartHop

SmartHop is building the AI-native, tech-enabled freight carrier of the future. Our mission is to empower small trucking operators with a path to grow their business and drive long-term success, and we’re doing it by building next-generation software that merges logistics, automation, and artificial intelligence.

We’re a fast-paced, product-driven team working at the intersection of logistics and cutting-edge AI. Join us in shaping the infrastructure for the next generation of freight mobility.

Role Overview

The Chief of Staff is a pivotal role responsible for driving operational excellence, defining strategic priorities, and implementing key initiatives across the organization. This highly visible, cross-functional role will act as a strategic partner to the CEO and leadership team to optimize processes, improve decision-making, and accelerate business growth and scalability.

What You’ll Do

Strategic Planning & Execution

  • Partner with the CEO to define, prioritize, and drive critical business and operational strategies
  • Translate high-level strategic objectives into clear, actionable plans and manage their execution across the company
  • Own and optimize company-wide operational rhythms, OKRs, and strategic planning processes
  • Develop and maintain key business performance metrics, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms

Operational Excellence & Process Improvement

  • Proactively identify and resolve operational gaps, inefficiencies, and risks before they impact execution
  • Design, document, and implement processes and playbooks to improve company efficiency and ensure consistent execution and accountability
  • Develop and maintain internal communication channels to ensure the team is aligned and informed
  • Serve as the CEO’s proxy in meetings and decision-making forums when required.

Investor & Customer Relations

  • Manage ongoing communication and reporting with investors, including board meeting prep, KPI tracking, and email communication
  • Prepare executive-level presentations, memos, and strategic updates
  • Support and take a lead role in the preparation of investor analyses and deliverables

What We’re Looking For

  • 3-5 years of experience in high-growth startups, top-tier consulting, or a similar analytical/operational role
  • Bias for Action: Self-starter who thrives in ambiguity and is comfortable taking ownership and driving projects independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Project Management: Proven track record of managing and successfully delivering cross-functional initiatives
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to deconstruct complex business problems and develop data-driven solutions
  • Strategic Thinker: Strong business judgment and ability to connect day-to-day operations to overall company strategy
  • Communication & Influence: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex concepts to influence senior leaders and cross-functional partners

Nice to Have

  • Background in logistics, marketplaces, or contractor-driven businesses

Why SmartHop

  • Be part of a mission-driven company redefining how the logistics industry works
  • Get in on the ground floor, working directly with a collaborative and ambitious leadership team
  • Work at a company building AI-native software that powers real-world systems
  • Competitive salary and equity package
  • Hybrid work culture with hubs in Miami and New York
