Hello! We’re The New Wine Review, a new, subscription-based startup publication for wine lovers. Our team includes some of the smartest, savviest wine journalists in the world, working together to build a digital media company from scratch. And we’re looking for a clever, responsible person to join us as a contract copy editor for a short-term project.

About the Job:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented copy editor to help us with an exciting project. You’ll need quite a bit of knowledge about wine as the work will involve checking the names, producers, and other details of a whole lot of wines and being able to catch irregularities down to the accent aigu.

You don’t need to have worked at a publication in a copy editing role before, but you’ll need to convince us you’re focused and someone we can trust to work quickly, independently and with a high degree of professionalism.

We run on Airtable and it would be cool if you’re already familiar with that or a similar system, but prior professional experience with databases is not a requirement for this role. As long as you’re up for learning, you’ll be fine.

This project will start immediately and is expected to last approximately one month. You’ll make $20 per hour for 20 hours per week. Work can be performed remotely from anywhere and on a flexible schedule. Your manager will be on West Coast business hours, so some availability that overlaps with that schedule is preferred.

  • Attention to detail
  • Wine expertise as demonstrated by a WSET III or above or comparable certification
  • Familiarity with or willingness to quickly learn database basics
  • Savviness and adaptability towards technology
  • Solid work ethic and ability to take responsibility for owning an assignment when it’s given to you
  • Your own computer and reliable internet
  • General professionalism
  • Immediate availability to get started

How to Apply:

To apply, please apply via LinkedIn. Attach a cover letter and full resume in a single file (you can do this when prompted to upload your current resume). In your cover letter, please name the wine you would go buy right now if you were given $500 to spend on a single bottle.
