Accounting Manager

Halfdays is hiring a detail-oriented, analytical, and highly driven Accounting Manager to join our team. The Accounting Manager will report to the Controller and play a key role in leading the month-end close process, optimizing operational accounting processes, ensuring accurate financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP, and enhancing workflows across the organization. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and enjoys building processes from the ground up. Halfdays is investing heavily in building a best-in-class finance function, and this is a foundational role with the opportunity to build and lead the accounting function as we expand.
The ideal candidate brings 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, with demonstrated expertise in financial reporting, budgeting and cost analysis, and inventory management, along with an active CPA license. Experience in the consumer products or apparel industry and with an early-stage company is highly preferred.
This role is based out of our headquarters in Denver, CO.
What you’ll do:
Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
- Own key areas of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process
- Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Manage revenue recognition for all revenue streams
- Oversee inventory accounting including landed costs and reserves, as well as manage periodic cycle count and full physical inventory count procedures
- Prepare financial reporting packages and variance analyses
Cost Controls & Budgeting
- Partner cross-functionally with department leads to execute monthly budget to actuals process
- Monitor and analyze cost variances, margins, and profitability and identify opportunities for cost rationalization
- Support the preparation and management of the annual budget and forecasting processes through providing inputs, as needed
Operational Accounting
- Oversee AP and AR processes, including vendor management, invoice processing, and collections
- Manage clearing accounts and payment processor reconciliations
- Support commission accruals and wholesale partner accounting
Systems & Process Improvement
- Document accounting memos, internal policies and procedures, and operational practices
- Strengthen internal controls and scalable processes
- Optimize ERP/accounting system functionality
- Explore and implement automation initiatives to reduce manual effort
Compliance & Controls
- Support the annual external audit process by providing documentation requests timely and acting as the primary point of contact for auditors
- Maintain accurate and well-documented financial records to support audits and compliance reviews
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP and other relevant financial regulations
- Assist with sales tax, 1099s, and other regulatory requirements
Who you are:
- An experienced accounting professional with 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong focus on financial reporting, cost management, inventory accounting, and leasing
- Experience in managing audit processes, including external audits and compliance reviews
- Highly organized, technically strong, and agile thinker who can establish clarity in evolving situations
- Deep knowledge of US GAAP (revenue recognition, inventory, accrual accounting) and experience with inventory management
- Comfortable working cross-functionally across departments and tailoring messaging on complex accounting topics to non-finance team members and executive stakeholders
- Strong communication skills, and proven track record of managing teams and mentoring junior professionals
- Advanced proficiency with ERP systems, accounting software, and Excel
- CPA certification is required
- Experience in consumer products, apparel, retail, or e-commerce strongly preferred
