You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, designers and healthcare professionals, to define product requirements, set priorities, and ensure successful execution.
Your deep understanding of health tech and previous experience in the industry will be crucial in guiding the development of products that address the unique needs and challenges of the end of life and bereavement sector. As a very early member of an early-stage team, you will be involved in long-term strategy as well as highly tactical day-to-day execution. Reporting directly to the founder/CEO, this is a rare opportunity to help an early-stage, mission-driven company grow.
*Responsibilities

Product strategy & execution
- Setting the vision for the product, creating a list of objectives and key results, building the product roadmap, selecting which ideas to turn into features, managing the backlog and prioritization, writing product feature requirements, storyboards and wireframes.
Technical solutions
- Deciding which technical solution should be implemented and evaluating the best integrations for in-app booking, billing, etc.
Customer & team collaboration
- Liaising with customers and collecting feedback on the product, collaborating with the offshore dev team and design contractors to ensure the feature/product is built according to the specifications.
Security compliance
- Prepping for and running annual SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA & HITRUST security audits, ensuring compliance of private information and assisting with enterprise contracts security reviews.
*Qualifications
*
- 5+ years of product development experience at a fast-growing company (ideally experience as an individual contributor working on a startup at an early stage)
- Computer science, software development, and/or engineering degree. You know how to code and can talk technical with the engineering team. Design experience a plus.
- Experience in and an understanding of software development methodologies and development processes, like agile and knowledge of scrum.
- Ability to develop product roadmaps. Both the what and why of what goes on a product roadmap, product requirements, and product vision and the how to implement.
- An understanding of APIs. How a product can communicate with other software is key for the success of the product—having knowledge of the inner workings of APIs will help make this a reality. Tools like Lob and Merge.
- Possess deep knowledge and experience in health tech, including familiarity with healthcare regulations, standards, and interoperability. You stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends related to health tech.
- Familiar with Figma, Google Authentication, Github, Jira, Amazon Web Services, Stripe and healthcare specific software like Headless EHRs, Candid, CertifyOS, Medallion.

You find it easy to communicate with different types of people, both onshore and offshore teams across. Strong intuition and understanding of what makes great creative, proficient working with and giving direction to designers.
Interest in end of life & bereavement
- Demonstrated interest in mental health as it relates to the experience of end of life, diagnosis, hospice, grief, loss and health generally.

This role can be contract or full-time.
Our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size and industry, and are one part of the total compensation package that also includes equity, benefits, and other opportunities at Betterleave. Individual pay decisions are based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, geography, and balancing internal equity relative to other Betterleave employees. In accordance with New York City law, the base salary for this role if filled within New York City is $90,000-$105,000. Bonuses are based on company performance. The salary range could be lower or higher than this if the role is hired in another location. We also believe that your personal needs and preferences should be taken into consideration so we allow some choice between equity and cash.
