Spade is building the next generation of fintech infrastructure by providing real-time merchant intelligence for the card ecosystem. We leverage a proprietary, ground-truth database to link any card transaction to a real merchant identity – providing granular merchant, category, and geolocation information. Our API leads the market in terms of merchant coverage, data accuracy, and speed of transaction enrichment.
We’re a fast growing, Series A company backed by industry experts and top tier investors (including a16z, Flourish Ventures, Y-Combinator, and Gradient Ventures). Our customers, including Stripe, Corpay, Mercury, and Unit, are industry leaders processing >$100B in card payments volume annually. They use our data to make better authorization decisions, detect and prevent fraud, build better banking infrastructure, and get a unique understanding of their users’ spending habits.

What will you be doing?
As a founding account executive, you will have the opportunity to do 0-1 sales. You will manage startup and mid-market deals, refine our playbook, and work closely with the product and engineering teams to ensure we’re meeting the needs of our customers. You’ll work with a variety of customer profiles, from start-up card issuers, to mid-market anti-fraud platforms, and everything in between. You will:
- Own startup and mid-market sales cycle from prospecting to close (currently have a very full pipeline and lots of warm intros / inbound leads!)
- Collaborate closely with founders to refine startup & mid-market strategy, identify target customers, generate sales collateral and resources, and improve sales processes
- Build and maintain relationships with distribution partners and resellers focused on mid-market customers
- Meet and exceed quarterly sales targets
- Understand customer needs and requirements, and bring feedback to internal team to help inform roadmap and priorities
What experience, skills, and qualifications are necessary?
- B2B fintech sales experience (4+ years, with at least 3 as a quota-carrying AE and a track record of over-performance)
- Experience as early sales hire in an startup
- Experience working creatively to source and engage with potential customers
- Ability to own and drive a deal from prospecting to close and beyond (incl. cross-sell, up-sell, and renewals)
- Deep fintech knowledge and network
- Comfort with technical products (preference for experience with usage-based APIs)
- Live in NYC or SF (strong preference for NYC)

Salary Range:
- At Spade, we view total compensation as consisting of salary + equity + benefits. We recruit motivated and high performing talent, and work to compensate people in line with the value they bring to our team.
We aim to pay fairly and competitively, and consider a number of factors in developing compensation offers. These factors include years and breadth of experience, interview performance, market dynamics, and internal equity.
The anticipated base salary range for this role is between $110,000 and $120,000, with an OTE between $220,000 and $240,000 and an equity grant.
